Power Safety Coordinator

Peterson Cat has the need for an experienced Power Safety Coordinator at our San Leandro, CA location.

SUMMARY

The Power Safety Coordinator works closely with Peterson Power Systems to maintain good customer relations and ensuring that all employees are safe (developing, training, and enforcing that all safety procedures, laws and policies are observed). Previews projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety related risks. Works with the sales team, service management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety related issues on project sites. Implements a consistent process for recording, investigating, and reporting incidents (injuries, property damage, motor vehicle accidents and near misses) to develop the causes of the incident to put corrective actions in place to prevent any recurrence.  Communicates to all Peterson employees through tailgate meetings, weekly recap emails, in-person, and Teams trainings, leading a weekly safety huddle with all leaders of Peterson as needed.  Performs periodic reviews of incidents/injuries/near misses of all reports to identify trends. The Power Safety Coordinator is responsible for conducting, administering, and monitoring programs related to required safety training and PPE requirements.

Safety Department Program Responsibilities

  • Safety roles will support all business units of Peterson Holding (Peterson CAT, Peterson Trucks, Peterson Power Systems, SITECH and Building Point Pacific). This position will be the subject matter expert to the electrical side of our business with growth into the natural gas engines and turbines. Experience or safety knowledge of working with the utility company sites (inside and outside of the substations) needed.
  • Make recommendations to service managers for employees and subcontractors who fail to comply with minimum safety standards.
  • Works with the Safety team on program and project development, monitors progress and reports status.
  • Supports the Safety team with new hire employee safety onboarding, including maintaining checklists and following up as necessary.
  • Completes customer survey requests.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan. Participates in and leads emergency evacuation/take shelter drills and ensures that all locations are properly prepared for emergencies. 
  • Enhances our safety culture by bringing new ideas and equipment (products and gear) to the team so that employees are better protected and more efficient in their work.
  • Travel is expected to be 25% - 75% of the time and includes out-of-territory.
  • Supports Safety Committee meetings and activities.
  • Provides training and certification for required safety training (e.g., MSHA, Arc Flash, forklift, Lockout Tagout and other work-related life critical safety needs).
  • Acts as liaison with Peterson University (PU); creates safety training courses & quizzes that need to be uploaded to the Peterson Success Center and ensures that the content is current.
  • Manages third-party vendors including, but not limited to ISNetworld, Avetta, and Browse.
  • Oversee corporate First Aid/CPR training compliance and expense reporting.
  • Travels to various operating entities to assist with incident investigation, emergency preparedness planning and training as necessary.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates with the Human Resources when an employee is placed on a leave of absence due to a Workers Compensation Claim.
  • Anticipates and proactively plans for employees who will be released to restricted duty and identifies potential assignments.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all employee’s medical information, ensures it is shared only with those with a legitimate business need to know, and in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Supports all wholly owned business units, some of which operate 6-7 days a week, with second and third shifts depending on work demands.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers and coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.

JOB SCOPE

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college in Safety Administration, Safety Management or other closely related field; and a minimum of five years’ experience with a focus on power generation and power supplies/Safety Department experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must possess understanding of current Safety Administration, Federal, State, Local and OSHA regulations.

Must have a strong understanding of the electrical industry consensus standards including NFPA 70E, NESC, ASTM, ANSI, Lockout/Tagout and ARC Flash training requirements with a strong understanding of state-specific regulations for California, Washington, and Oregon

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

The pay range for this position is: $97,000 - $110,000 (Starting wage will depend on experience and education. We also offer a total compensation package in addition to base salary.)
